As we celebrate Black History Month, we’re grateful for our past and honoring duos making Black History right now. Black Love’s Dynamic Duos recognizes siblings, friends, and couples that are making Black history NOW. From photographers, choreographers, and authors, these duos sit down to tell the world who they are and how they are building together. This month we’ve launched videos each week on Black love’s profiles highlighting duos doing their thing in the name of Black Love. Check out these Black businesses below changing the game in their own corners of the world.
Michael & Marche
Newell House

What once was a 16-acre lot in the 1980s blossomed into the family home of Michael Newell. Over the years, his childhood home was a celebratory place his parent’s friends gathered for homecoming parties, his sister was married there, and the home hosted countless family reunions. Following the passing of Michael’s father, the house sat vacant for many years. But Michael had an idea that would soon change that. Alongside his childhood friend turned wife, Marche, they partnered together to create Newell House, a Black-owned wedding venue where your happily ever after can begin.

Rachel & Rikki are two sisters who were fed up with the lack of diversity in mainstream beauty and natural hair for Black women. When it comes to 4c natural hair, it wasn’t showcased as the imagery that we’re often shown shows natural hair that’s deemed “acceptable”. Nappy Head Club is doing the work to show that all hair is good hair and that our features, magic, and the very essence of who we are is more than enough.
